Kid Team Ropers can Inspire Us All

15th Jun 2015

It was the last weekend in May and the equine community came together for a Memorial Day Roping to honor the passing of a gentleman rancher businessman who inspired and gave wisdom to many in the Las Vegas community. It was during this event that I remembered my youthful spirit as I watched and admired the "up-and-coming stars" which were the kids who took pride in their horsemanship skills in order to compete for top prizes.

Fearless and brave, these kids were the entertainment, with ages ranging from five to seventeen. Their determination and try was remarkable to watch. From the constant turning or careless miss of the loop to the final catch of the steer in which one participant ran his partner and steer into the fence. Dramatic emotions and distinct facial expressions of innocence was that of what I miss from my youth. Oh, to be that age again - when all that mattered was a near miss of not placing to win a buckle or saddle and before life's experiences took away the best part of just having plain ordinary FUN!
